Voipfone to Rescue London’s Skype Users

A VoIP company based in the UK is set to ‘rescue’ the 10,000 Skype users in London who have been informed that as of December the 20th, those with 0207 numbers will be having their numbers disconnected.

The company – Voipfone is offering to transfer the affected Skype customers over to it’s service for no charge and the rates will be less than they were previously paying with Skype.

Collin Duffy, the CEO of Voipfone released the following statement:

“This must be distressing, expensive, and inconvenient times for all Skype customers with 0207 numbers. With companies facing mail shots, business cards, and stationery that are all having to be scrapped, we are really pleased to be in a position to help”

Number porting means customers will be able to keep their own numbers meaning minimal interruption of service will be experienced by customers transferring to the Voipfone service and will also be able to make use of services not available on their Skype accounts such as call recording, PBX extensions and voicemail to email.

iPod Touch Hacked to use VoIP

The recent release of the iPod Touch saw the release not just of an mp3 video player, but so much more with the use of the Internet, connectable through Wi-Fi and the Apple Safari web browser.

The only real downside of the iPod Touch was its inability to connect to the internet via Edge/GSM and was limited to its ability to first find a nearby Wi-Fi connection but also to be able to connect to that network.

However, two people have been able to hack the iPod Touch to accommodate a mic into the mp3 player and connect to VoIP, and users have been able to communicate via SIP based VoIP calls – opening up the possibility that may mean iPod Touch users will soon be able to make Skype calls via a handheld mp3 device.

A Guide to Online Faxing

Faxes can be sent quite easily via the internet, saving you from purchasing a fax machine and the cost of a dedicated telephone line.

The online fax will convert incoming fax images to electronic email (fax to email) which can be forwarded on as emails which will save on other costs such as paper and ink.

Callagenix offer fax to email services for the modern, paper free offices which work by converting incoming faxes to TIFF images that can be read digitally on your computer and then saved and forwarded on as an email attachment.
Callagenix offer advanced fax to email functionality such as SMS notification for when you receive a fax.

The service also enables you to receive multiple faxes at one time, something that is often not possible with a standalone fax machine and a great feature for busy companies.
Faxes can be forwarded to any recipient via email and can also be viewed within a web interface. Voice calls can be taken through the same telephone line as voice calls and faxes are treated differently.

Callagenix offer a free fax to email trial, you can view their services at www.callagenix.com.

Dumped via Fax to Email

As we are becoming more technically advanced, our methods of dealing with real people are becoming more distant, and a report on Vnunet.com highlights this by stating how one in seven relationships end via SMS or email – following on from Phil Collins who allegedly ended his marriage via a fax machine.

A report on the Reuters website conducted my moneysupermarket.com claims that one in seven Brits claim to have been dumped by phone text message or email, an incredibly cowardly way to end a relationship.

Methods could get even more technical with phone services such as fax to email becoming more readily available, and with social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook so widely used, it will be interesting to see if they eventually play a part.
